School Profile

GMIS Semarang is functioning under the aegis of Gandhi Seva Loka (GSL) Jakarta. Founded in 1947, GSL is a pioneer in providing quality education. It is running six schools successfully across Indonesia.GMIS Jakarta, GMIS Bali, Mahatma Gandhi School, Gandhi School. GMIS Semarang are the group of schools that offer International programs. Established in 1950, GMIS Jakarta is a very old school in Jakarta. GMIS Semarang is till at is nascent stage. All the schools, however share a common vision and mission

GMIS Students have so far joined Harvard University, University of California, Berkeley, University of Pennsylvania, Singapore National University, Cornell University, London Business School, and other universities across the world. Our students have performed pretty good in universities in U.S, U.K, Canada, Australia, India, Singapore. GMIS has been graced and honored by the visit of some highly acclaimed dignitaries who have motivated and inspired it to pursue its dream of excellence.

Currently GMIS Semarang is operating at Jalan Setiabudi, Semarang. The school will move to a new state-of-art campus in Graha Candi Golf very soon. The school will have all modern facilities of a smart school. GMIS Semarang offers education from Nursery to Grade 12 (2 years to 19 years of age). . The school is accredited by the Board of Secondary Education, India Indonesia. We will soon apply for International Baccalaureate programmes

Our Goal

To introduce International Baccalaureate programme in next few years is our goal. So far there is no IB School in Semarang. Authorization process will be initiated very soon. We are diligently working towards this goal.

Mother Tongue Support

At GMIS we support students to actively use their mother tongue through various school activities and provide resources to encourage learning. Students are also given opportunities to occasionally present their learning and/or reflection in their mother tongue. At the back of this diary is the consent form Supporting the Mother Tongue development Programme. this must be duly completed and submitted to the Class Teacher.


GMIS Semarang offers a personalized learning environment. The curriculum in general is the same as that followed by English medium international schools in most commonwealth countries of the world

School Year

There are two terms of approximately 20+ weeks duration. Reports are issued mid-term as well as at the end of each term. First term from July to December followed by vacation, then the second term from January to June. At the end of each term, term exams are held.

English Support

Our teachers provide special English Language support during regular classes and excellent group and individual tutoring for students in need of additional support. For students who come from non-English medium schools, special personalized English classes are held from 2.15 pm - 3.15 pm, three times a week during each term.

Language Policy

Language is fundamental to learning, thinking and communicating. It is seen as involving learning the language itself, learning about language and learning through the language. At GMIS, all cultures and languages represented by the student and staff body in the School are valued and respected.

Language of Instruction

English is the language of instruction in GMIS, and is the major connecting element across the curriculum. If a student's English skills are inadequate, he is placed in an appropriate support program prior to being absorbed in the mainstream.

    Remedial Classes

    Remedial Classes, if required and feasible, may be organized for the academically weak students. these classes will be available for English, Science Mathematics and other subject after school hour from 2.15 pm - 3.15 pm. The Co-ordinator may be contacted if the student is desirous of joining such a class.


    Examinations are held at the end of each term. Continuous assessment of the student are carried out throughout the year. Class test, home assignments, class work, and projects are also marked.


    For the purpose of promoting a student to the next level, the year’s record of work will be taken into account along with the marks of two examinations. the year’s record of work consist of test/term examination and day-to -day written work, home assignments, project work, practical etc.


    After completing examination for Prep Level, Grade 5, Grade 10 (Matriculation), and Grade 12 (Higher Secondary), students graduate accordingly.

    Enrichment Programmes

    This is for students who are gifted or talented in specific areas to develop their special interests.

    Creative and Cultural Activities

    It is the aim of the School to involve all students in cultural, charitable and creative activities. Art and Craft, Music and Drama are an integral part of the curriculum. But they represent only a small part of the aesthetic activities in which students can take part in. Conducting Morning Assembly, Debates, Dramatics, Elocution, Quiz, Essay Writing, Painting, Look-Alike Contests, Face-Painting, Kitten Walk, Singing, Dancing, Cultural Programmes, Calligraphy, UN Day, Teacher's Day, Children's Day, Kartini Day, Band, Piano and Photography Contest form the varied activities that students can participate in.
